The kitchen is the heart of the home. It is the place where we start our days, fuel our bodies, gather with friends and family, and bond over shared stories. We spend so much time in our kitchens, so why not convert them into beautiful spaces that reflect our own unique personalities and design tastes? With 2023 ending and the new year in full swing, we want to share some kitchen design trends that you can expect to see in 2024.
Minimalistic Kitchen Design
Minimalistic kitchen designs are sometimes misunderstood as simple and boring. We prefer “clean and chic”. The truth is, that minimalism is a trending design style that is here to stay. The simplicity of the design can be left as is, or elevated with accent pieces that adjust to your taste. Minimalistic kitchens can still be state-of-the-art, fully loaded with smart technology and appliances. If you are chasing this aesthetic, we recommend brightening up your kitchen with a clean, white aesthetic, dark accents, and greenery for a touch of colour.
Organic Kitchen Design
Bring the outdoors in, with a stunning organic kitchen design. This has been a rising design approach over the last few years, which is expected to keep climbing in 2024. The use of natural earthy tones has a way of providing a calming and soothing atmosphere. The beautiful thing about this aesthetic (as well as the rest), is that it can be catered to your home. Go for a monochromatic look with a range of similar neutral shades. Or, you may choose to further enhance the look with some greenery or complimentary earthy tones for some colour.
Dining Island
Food brings people together. A growing trend that we expect to take off in 2023 is dining islands. Not your typical island, these islands are made bigger and with more seating, to be used as a multipurpose traditional island and dining table combined. Eliminating the need for a dining table, if you are tight on budget or space, dining islands may be the perfect solution for you. Turn your kitchen into a social hub by placing your island in the center of your kitchen, creating unity and a lovely natural flow.
Hidden Cabinetry
Keeping with the theme of clean and innovative designs, we simply could not leave out hidden cabinetry. Gearing away from the traditional cabinet look, these cabinets disguise themselves as walls or backsplashes, creating a cleaner and sleeker finish. It’s a win-win scenario. Hold on to your cabinet space, without crowding your kitchen with visible cabinets. It’s the perfect combination of aesthetics and functionality – what’s not to love?
Butler’s Pantry
You may be asking yourself why old-school Butler’s Pantries are on our list, considering they’ve been around for a while. Previously used as storage and display areas for special kitchenware, these pantries have since evolved into space for food prep areas, food storage, kitchenware storage, coffee bars, and wine cellars. Oftentimes, these pantries are open, transitional spaces that connect the kitchen and dining area. That being said, a lot of kitchens now contain a hidden butler’s pantry, which is a separate room attached to the kitchen, containing storage and/or entertainment space. This room often doubles as a hidden gem, as well as a great conversation starter.
